Member of the Survey Corps and former cadet of the 104th Training Corps. Bertoldt ranked 3rd in his training class upon graduation, finishing behind only Mikasa and his hometown friend Reiner. He is a quiet young man who identifies himself as someone with a weak will that follows popular opinion. Despite ranking 3rd in his class, his training commandant noted him to be a person with great potential, but an utter lack of initiative. Bertoldt originally he enlisted in the military with aspirations of joining the Military Police and living in the safety of the inner wall, but after the Battle of Trost he instead decided to join the Survey Corps.
