Nieffel
A worldly priest with a temperament, he is a Peacemaker--part of an organization where the members have vowed to travel the world and help those in need. The Peacemakers will do anything from overthrowing (and killing) tyrants to helping you get your cat down from a tree. They are here to serve at the cost of their own lives, as they view it as giving their once-empty lives purpose.
The Peacemakers are often smiles on the outside, and are always gentle to the less fortunate. But all the members have their dark pasts, becoming Peacemakers to find meaning in their lives. Nieffel is no different.
Becoming a Peacemaker is an extremely strict affair, and all the members take their roles very seriously in order to keep the Peacemaker name trustworthy. Anyone caught imitating a Peacemaker for evil deeds will be caught, hunted down, and even tortured by the real ones.
Though initially polite and smiling to everyone he meets, Nieffel becomes outwardly sarcastic and nonchalant if you keep talking to him. Because of this, Nieffel and Aster end up bickering often. Mid-arguments he'll do things like squish her face so she can't talk back, or pat her head like he's bouncing a basketball to make fun of her. Nieffel is actually trying to keep his distance, but ends up getting secretly attached to her, much to his chagrin.
Despite everything, he will not ignore a person who truly needs help. He becomes surprisingly gentle to Aster whenever she's having a tough time, and will quietly (and somewhat awkwardly) try to comfort her by giving her things she likes, or draping his cloak on her shoulders. Nieffel is surprised when he learns that the magic that allows Aster to walk will likely end soon, and he promises her that he'll find a way to make it permanent.
