A notable director, special effects director and designer working on both tokusatsu and anime.

He started his career in 1984 working on Godzilla as a modeler for the monsters. The same year he joined Daicon Film, working on the special effects of the tokusatsu movie Yamata no Orochi no Gyakushu, and later became one of the founding members of Studio Gainax.

In 1992 he established Studio GONZO alongside other ex-Gainax staff Shouji Murahama, Hiroshi Yamaguchi and Mahiro Maeda.

His most notable achievements in tokusatsu are working as special effects director for Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995), and as both special effects director and director, on Shin Godzilla (2016).
