Introduction:
Umeda Cypher is a Japanese hip-hop collective that consists of various rappers, MCs, DJs and music producers. The collective originates from cyphers that were held at the Osaka and Umeda stations alongside its participants.
They call themselves a collective over a group or a crew as there are no fixed members, no leader and no hierarchal relationship present, the characterization comes from the idea that it is still a gathering of individuals much like the cyphers where they originate from.
The first meet dates back to May 19, 2007, when one of the original members Funk said he wanted to rap more, so he and two of the other original members H.YOROZU and akiramen plus others orchestrated a cypher every saturday night at the pedestrian bridge connecting the Hanshin Department Store and Hankyu Department Store in Umeda.
